Terms of Service

Terms for using Permit Sheriff, its AI-assisted permit intelligence, integrations, and paid services.

Effective date

These Terms of Service are effective August 26, 2026 and govern access to and use of Permit Sheriff, including its websites, applications, AI-assisted permit intelligence, document processing, reports, integrations, and related services.

Who we are and what the service does

Permit Sheriff is software that helps customers organize permit and project records, analyze documents, surface possible requirements and risks, track findings and deadlines, and coordinate permit-related work. Permit Sheriff is not a government agency, permitting authority, law firm, architecture firm, engineering firm, code official, inspector, or licensed professional service provider. The service does not issue permits, approve plans, make government decisions, or guarantee approval, acceptance, code compliance, or any particular project outcome.

AI-assisted information and professional judgment

Permit Sheriff may use automated systems and artificial intelligence to classify documents, extract information, generate summaries, identify possible requirements or conflicts, and recommend next actions. AI-assisted output can be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect. You are responsible for reviewing source material and verifying important findings, deadlines, jurisdiction requirements, calculations, submissions, and generated content before relying on them. Where professional or legal judgment is required, you must consult an appropriately qualified professional or the applicable authority.

Accounts and authorized users

  • Provide accurate account, organization, and billing information.
  • Keep credentials and access methods secure and promptly notify us of suspected unauthorized use.
  • Use the service only for organizations, projects, systems, and data you are authorized to access.
  • You are responsible for activity performed through your organization’s accounts and authorized users.

Plans, subscriptions, and Enterprise agreements

Permit Sheriff currently offers Operations as its standard self-serve paid plan at the price displayed at checkout, and Enterprise under sales-assisted or negotiated commercial terms. The former $199 Professional plan and Founding Operator offer are retired for new purchases. Existing contractual or paid access under a retired plan remains governed by the terms applicable to that customer unless separately changed by agreement.

Paid subscriptions begin when the applicable payment provider confirms checkout and renew automatically for the selected billing period until canceled. Taxes, usage-based third-party charges, separately purchased services, and Enterprise-specific fees may apply where disclosed. Enterprise order forms, marketplace terms, or other written agreements may add to or override these Terms for the covered purchase if they expressly say so.

Cancellation, renewal, and refunds

You may cancel future renewal through available billing controls or by contacting us. Cancellation stops future renewal but does not automatically create a refund for charges already incurred. Refund eligibility is governed by the Refund Policy and any controlling marketplace or written agreement.

Customer content, project data, and permissions

You retain ownership of content and project data you submit to the service, subject to rights held by others. You grant Permit Sheriff the limited rights necessary to host, process, transmit, transform, analyze, and display that content to operate, secure, support, and improve the service. You represent that you have the rights and permissions needed to provide the content and connect any third-party account, project, hub, folder, file, issue, or other resource you authorize Permit Sheriff to access.

Third-party services and integrations

Permit Sheriff may connect with third-party products and platforms, including payment providers, cloud infrastructure, Autodesk services, marketplace providers, and other customer-authorized systems. Your use of those third-party services is also subject to their terms and availability. Permit Sheriff is not responsible for third-party outages, API changes, permission restrictions, data supplied by third parties, or actions taken by a third-party provider. You may disconnect integrations where the product provides that control, subject to retention and audit obligations that may lawfully continue.

Acceptable use

  • Do not interfere with, probe, disrupt, overload, or attempt unauthorized access to the service or another customer’s data.
  • Do not use the service to violate law, intellectual-property rights, privacy rights, contractual obligations, or security restrictions.
  • Do not upload malicious code or intentionally submit data designed to manipulate, poison, or exploit automated systems.
  • Do not misrepresent Permit Sheriff output as an official government determination, permit approval, sealed professional opinion, or guaranteed compliance result.

Security and service availability

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures intended to protect the service and customer data. No system can be guaranteed completely secure or continuously available. We may modify, maintain, suspend, or discontinue features where reasonably necessary for security, reliability, legal compliance, product improvement, or third-party platform changes. Material changes that significantly reduce a paid service will be handled in accordance with applicable agreements and law.

Intellectual property

Permit Sheriff and its software, branding, interfaces, documentation, models, workflows, and other service materials are owned by Permit Sheriff or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Except for the limited right to use the service under these Terms, no ownership rights are transferred to you. Feedback you voluntarily provide may be used to improve the service without restriction or payment, provided we do not publicly identify you as the source without permission.

Confidentiality

Each party may receive non-public business, technical, project, security, or commercial information from the other. Each party will use reasonable care to protect such confidential information and use it only for the relationship contemplated by these Terms, except where disclosure is authorized or legally required. Enterprise agreements may contain additional confidentiality obligations.

Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. PERMIT SHERIFF DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY ANALYSIS, DEADLINE, REQUIREMENT, CONTACT, JURISDICTION INFORMATION, OR GENERATED OUTPUT WILL BE COMPLETE OR CORRECT. YOU REMAIN RESPONSIBLE FOR PROJECT DECISIONS, PROFESSIONAL REVIEW, OFFICIAL SUBMISSIONS, AND CONFIRMING REQUIREMENTS WITH THE RELEVANT AUTHORITY.

Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PERMIT SHERIFF AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AND LICENSORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, DELAY COSTS, PROJECT COSTS, OR LOSS OF GOODWILL ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE. EXCEPT WHERE A DIFFERENT LIMIT IS REQUIRED BY LAW OR EXPRESSLY AGREED IN WRITING, PERMIT SHERIFF’S AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO PERMIT SHERIFF FOR THE SERVICE GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM DURING THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT FIRST GIVING RISE TO LIABILITY.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access for material breach, nonpayment, security risk, unlawful use, abuse of the service, or where continued access would expose Permit Sheriff, customers, or third parties to material harm. Where reasonably practicable, we will provide notice and an opportunity to cure before termination for breach. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination—including payment obligations, intellectual property, disclaimers, liability limits, and confidentiality—will survive.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the service, law, or business changes. If a change is material, we will provide notice through the service, by email, or by another reasonable method. Continued use after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law. Material changes will not retroactively alter a separately signed Enterprise agreement unless that agreement allows it.
